Cloud Gaming

What Is Cloud Gaming

As we know as time progresses, the specifications of games are becoming quite demanding, and even high-end graphics cards like the RTX 3070 series struggle with games.

However, there’s an alternative solution to all those handicaps getting in the way of folks enjoying games. The latest technological advancement in the form of cloud gaming offers high-end games with only a prerequisite of a stable internet. The official website mentions internet speeds up to 5Mbps.

Cloud gaming works through remote servers where data is centered and you all just need a device as simple as even your phone to play those new AAA games.

Xbox Cloud Gaming Vs PlayStation Cloud Gaming

Both the platforms, Sony and Xbox, offer cloud gaming. Sony names it PS Plus Cloud, which needs a PlayStation Plus premium subscription, while Xbox calls it Xcloud.

The media outlet Digital Foundry, which does a great job in terms of technical details about the games, compared the image quality, performance, and latency of the PS Plus Cloud and Xcloud.

Conducting the test with PS5 for Sony and Xbox Series X for Microsoft, The results found are astonishing as Playstation runs the race with its superior image quality and performance over Xcloud. However, the latency was better on the side of Xbox.

Getting more inside the details of the results, I became astounded as although Xcloud was based on Xbox series X silica. However, the performance offered by it was the Xbox series S version, while Sony proved to be trustworthy here as it exactly resembles the local PS5 install performance.

Meanwhile, in the visuals section, Sony is dominating with a native resolution of up to 4K on PS5 games, while Xbox is capped at only 1080p resolution.

Nonetheless, Xbox holds a positive point here as Xcloud latency is lower, 34ms than PlayStation Cloud, which makes the cloud gaming on Xcloud smoother because the controller input never irritates you with the latency; however, there might be some trouble ỉn controller input with Sony.

Future Of Cloud Gaming

Cloud gaming holds immense potential for changing the landscape of the gaming future as it eliminates the need for too many costs of PCs, consoles, and the physical addition of games, making games no longer a privilege for riches.

Although there were questions about its technical capabilities to run a game, now the analysis of Digital Foundry gives a solid idea of the performance and visual quality.

Nevertheless, there are some games that are not tackled smoothly by streaming; however, it’s just a matter of time for those to get performance improvements.

Games Available for Cloud Gaming

The game streaming service already has many great games, and in the case of Xbox, these are A Plaque Tail Requiem, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and other titles, Battlefield games, Atomic Heart, Dead Space Remake, Dead Island 2, and others.
