From Software begins its Souls game’s career with the franchise Dark Souls, the first game of which was released back on September 22, 2011.
Although the first game was up to par and received critical acclaim, the second game in the series was a controversial one and still a point of debate in the community.
For the praisers of Dark Souls 2, the recent statement of Hidetaka Miyazaki holds some heal as he says that the game set a path that most modern games run on.
After the successful reception of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree trailer, Hidetaka Miyazaki went on to speak with IGN about different aspects of the company.
While discussing some other aspects of the company, the interviewer asked about Dark Souls 2, the From Software game that he didn’t direct.
Miyazaki defended the game, saying it was one of the best titles of From Software and has delivered many ideas that are carried out in the rest of the series.
Looking at what ideas Dark Souls 2 produced, it was the transition from linear to open-ended gameplay in which two of the From Software games, Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice, carried on.
While many will consider this statement as a defensive move, it holds rationality as Elden Ring got that much commercial and critical acclaim due to its game design as a breathtaking open world.
Moreover, the director explains the role of different directors in a studio as he assumes that having different ideas from different directors has helped the studio achieve those unique games.
