The game subscription services model is getting more attention these days. Sony holds the top position with its PlayStation Plus, which is around 47.4 million, while the Xbox Game Pass falls behind it as it has 34 million active users.
However, the acquisition of Activision Blizzard has made Xbox turn the tables as it will expand the library of its gamepass catalogue with a worldwide-dominated IP Call of Duty of Activision.
There’s a recent report on the take of Call of Duty on Game Pass as Phil Spencer described that the future Call of Duty titles will be a day one on Xbox Game Pass.
Why it matters: Although the Xbox Game Pass had already been successful because of various AAA titles in it, the inclusion of Call of Duty titles will raise the bar for the subscription service.
The report comes from Phil Spencer speaking to Gamefile when he asserted that Microsoft is going to release all its first-party studio games to day one on Xbox Game Pass. What that means is the inclusion of Call Of Duty 2024 on Xbox Game Pass.
The major first-party publishers of Xbox game studios are Bethesda, Zenimax, Machine Games and others.
The most recent is Activision Blizzard, so the games of these studios will be on gamepass on the same day as they go for general sale on other platforms like Steam.
“Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard and XGS — Xbox Game Studios — will be on Game Pass, day one,”
Phil Spencer
Nonetheless, Activision is gearing up for Call of Duty 2024, which is the Black Ops series reportedly being Black Ops 6 with a setting of the Gulf War.
The game hasn’t had an exact release date; however, now it’s certain that it will be on day one on Xbox Game Pass.
Nevertheless, apart from Call of Duty, Xbox Game Pass has already added more than 40 games in the year, while there are many important first-party titles like Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones that are coming to gamepass so the year will be great in terms of solid games on Xbox Game Pass.

Meanwhile, if looking at the existing Call of Duty titles, there are many decent ones that fans would like to come on gamepass, so when the inclusion will be made possible still remains unclear. However, one of the most promising Activision game, Diablo 4 for gamepass is announced coming on March 28, 2024.
