Although Xbox is growing software-wise as its first-party lineup expands, the company’s hardware sales are very low compared to competitors PlayStation 5 and Nintendo.
However, there is still a ray of hope for the resurrection of hardware, as a new report suggests that Xbox console players reached their peak this year in Asia.
Xbox didn’t have a strong presence in Asia, specifically in Japan, as other consoles, the PS5 and Nintendo Switch, continued to hold these regions.
However, today, after the Tokyo game show, Xbox boss Phil Spencer spoke some words about the ongoing situation of Xbox in this region.
He said that this year has been the biggest in terms of Xbox progress in the region across all devices, while Xbox console players have also reached their peak.
“We’re continuing to see growth in the region. This year, more people are playing with Xbox, across all devices in Asia, than ever before. And, we’ve seen the largest number of Xbox console players in the region, to date.”

However, does across all devices include PS5 and Nintendo is still unclear, as the Xbox games released on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, like Sea of Thieves, Hifi Rush, and others, gained significant attention.
Yet, it’s good that Xbox Hardware finally made some progress in Japan while the Xbox Game Pass service also gained quadrated players in this region in 2023. Meanwhile, Xbox is also focusing on entertaining Japanese players, as its partnership with Square Enix will bring Japanese favourite franchise Final Fantasy titles to Game Pass.
Furthermore, Phil also made some announcements for the Japanese audience that its future titles will include full localization in Japan, and the list starts with Starfield: Shattered Space Expansion and Indiana Jones.
Nevertheless, previous reports indicate revenue declines in hardware sales during the past quarter year. Due to revenue declines, Microsoft is also shrinking the availability of Xbox consoles in many regions, including some in Asia, such as India, Saudi Arabia, and others.
This led to concern over the company’s ignorance of hardware. However, after this latest report, it appears that the Xbox console will soon rise again with the company’s efforts.
Nonetheless, Xbox is also looking to bring its handheld, which could bring more progress over the hardware side. However, it remains unknown when it will be launched and what unique features will help the console stand out from the competition with handhelds.
