Crux Of The Story
- Sony’s previous plans of emphasizing the Live Service model seem unsuccessful hence the company has changed plans.
- A new report says that Sony has canceled two more Live service games from Bend Studio and Blueprint, which was the God Of War live service project.
- There are still titles in development at Sony, such as Marathon, FairGame$, and Horizon titles on the niche.
Live Service Games are always a lucrative option for developers, as these are money jackpots like PUBG, Counter-Strike, GTA 5, and others. So, like other developers, Sony was also interested in working on projects like that.
However, the Live Service model also imposes a crucial risk of a game failure, as already seen In Concord, Suicide Squad, and others.
Therefore, a latest report by renowned insider Jason Schreier confirmed from Sony that the company has changed its plans for live service models and again emphasizes single-player titles. The report suggests that Sony has canceled two major live service titles from two studios Bend and Blueprint.
Bend’s canceled project was not revealed; whereas, Blueprint was working for a couple of years on the God of War live service title that is now scrapped. Previously, it was rumored that Days Gone Live Service title is in the works. However, it remains to know whether the canceled one from Bend Studio was this title or something else.
Furthermore, Jason said that these projects’ cancelation will result in layoffs still remains known. However, it is confirmed that the studios will not close and Sony is working to determine the next projects for the studios.
Meanwhile, Sony has already canceled a few more live service titles of games including Spider-Man, Last of Us, Twisted Metal, and Bungie’s Payback. These are known ones, and there were also unknown projects from London Studio and Deviation Games.
Nevertheless, some titles of the niche are still in development, such as FairGame$, a modern competitive heist title, Bungie Sc-fi Extraction Shooter, and Horizon Live Service game. So, after the closure of so many titles, the future of these projects still remains uncertain.
All in all, it appears that Sony is returning to single-player titles, which was the company’s biggest expertise in creating successful First Party IPs like Spider-Man, Uncharted, God of War, Days Gone, and others.
After many years of waiting to get sequels of favorite titles like Days Gone, it seems that we might see these sequels in the near future.
