MOBA, a multiplayer online battle arena, is a popular subgenre of strategy video games. While there are many popular inclusions like Dota, League of Legends, and others, a new Unreal Engine 5 sequel has also emerged from the Hi-rez studios. Smite 2 released back in 2024 has found a new wave of attention, as it has reached a new all-time peak of 21k concurrent players on Steam.
The title 12 hours back has received its all-time peak of 21,481 players while currently, more than 17k players are playing the game. It was available in early access from August 27 and found a 12k players peak; however, then it started declining, and from Jan 2025, it started to surge again.
Hi-rez announced the open beta release for Jan 14. Upon that announcement, the players started taking more interest, and once the open beta was released, it reached a new peak of 21k. While it is still inclining, we might see more peaks in the coming days.
The transition from Alpha launch to open beta on Jan 14 brought many exciting things for fans, such as new characters Aladdin, Mulan, Geb, and others, various new modes like 3V3 in an Arthurian-themed area, and much more. Meanwhile, Cabrakan, the destroyer of the mountain, is a new god coming to Smite 2.
While don’t expect the game to match the standards of huge titles like Diablo, it is still a good addition to the genre, so those who haven’t played should give it a try, given that it’s a free-to-play title.
Moreover, the reviews of the title are also not too bad as it has mixed reviews on Steam with more positive critics around 4k and 3k negative ones. There are still issues like players complaining of the gods lock behind the founder edition, which needs an extra 20 bucks, and say instead of a step forward it’s a step back.
Nevertheless, Smite 2 is also available on consoles including PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. So, these audiences also have access to this free-to-play title.
