RTX 5090 Unable To Get 4K Native 60 FPS In Demanding Titles

Crux Of The Story

  • Nvidia released RTX 50 Blackwell Series GPUs at yesterday’s CES 2025.
  • The top-of-the-line variant RTX 5090 was not enough to get 4K native 60 FPS in demanding titles like Alan Wake 2, and others.
  • AI technologies like DLSS 4 and multiframe generation provide most of the FPS performance for the GPUs.

After all the buzzing around CES 2025, the event is finally concluded yesterday, with a lot of exciting reveals, including Nvidia’s next-gen RTX 50 GPUs. These GPUs have AI breakthroughs like the introduction of DLSS 4 with multiple frame generation.

Meanwhile, Nvidia also showcased the performance of these GPUs on various games, including intense demanding games, such as Alan Wake 2, Black Myth Wukong, and others.

While the results were quite appealing, one of the most astounding was that despite such hardware advancement, RTX 5090 was unable to reach 50 FPS on Alan Wake 2 on Native 4K resolution. We also see the same native results with other intensive games such as Black Myth Wukong and Cyberpunk 2077.

This suggests that RTX 5090, with 32GB GDDR7 memory, 21760 CUDA cores, and 2x more power than RTX 4090, is still not enough to get 60 FPS on high native resolutions like 4K. However, it performs incredibly well when utilizing AI like DLSS 4 and multiple frame-gen, it easily achieves high FPS around 250 on 4K.

Therefore, AI provides the main performance of today’s GPUs, as it provides a whopping 200 FPS boost for the GPU. Since DLSS 4 is exclusive to these GPUs, it is the main advertisement point for Nvidia to justify the $1999 price point and outperform competitors like AMD.

Nevertheless, slightly less demanding games RTX 5090 can achieve 60 FPS at 4K native resolutions, as we can see in the report that Frostpunk and Hogwarts Legacy easily run at more than 60 FPS.

Moreover, Nvidia has also introduced Reflex 2 for multi-frame generation which provides more juicy results for Competitive FPS games, reducing 75% latency compared to 50% of Reflex 1.

All in all, the Nvidia RTX 50 series is a special addition for enthusiasts, and the other competitors like the AMD RX 9000 series are not going to outcompete these Giants.
