Capcom’s latest title, Monter Hunter Wilds, becomes an instant success upon launch. It has claimed a record of selling 8 million copies in only three days of launch. Today, it has claimed another record as Monster Hunter Wilds became Japan’s biggest PS5 launch ever.
The game became so popular in Japan that it became the top seller for the week and sold over 600,000 physical copies. Thus, more than half a million copies have been sold in a single territory in a week, and even there are only physical copies.

The Monster Hunter franchise is highly popular in Japan. The previous high-selling launches were Monster Hunter World, which sold 1.35 million copies on PS4; Monster Hunter Rise on Nintendo Switch, which sold 1.3 million copies; and Monster Hunter Wilds, which has 600k sales.
Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Wilds also increased PS5 sales to a new level, making it the number one selling console in Japan this week. Last week, PS5 sales were only 13k, and the title helped it reach 100k sales this week.
Monster Hunter Wilds is selling well on PS5 because the PC port has performance issues. Meanwhile, PS5 Pro has an enhanced version, which makes it an even better option for playing the title.
That said, Monster Hunter Wilds was quite popular on Steam, reaching around 1.2 million concurrent players. It was also Capcom’s fastest-selling title ever, selling 8 million units in just three days.
All in all, Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the greatest RPG titles of the year, and it will be the biggest contender for game of the year.
