Sony’s latest exclusive from Bungie, Marathon, is set to release this September 23. While Sony canceled many live service titles, this one survived. Although people have their concerns regarding this Sony extraction shooter, the early previews appear to point to an immense optimization of Marathon.
According to Drlupo, in an interview with a Bungie developer, Marathon runs incredibly well during playtest sessions. The RTX 4070s were easily able to surpass 200 FPS on 1440p maximum settings with DLSS set to DLAA, which is close to native resolution, and also, there is no frame generation needed for these frames. The CPU that was used in the playtest was from Intel 13th Gen.
“It ran extremely well. It ran better than my experience.”
Dr. Lupo
This means that Marathon will be a good title in terms of optimization, removing a big concern, as most of today’s titles have such types of issues. Hence, Marathon performance is better than Bungie Destiny 2. Such performance gives the game an edge over the recent addition in this genre, Delta Force, which has optimization issues like FPS drops, lag, stuttering, and others.
Elsewhere, Dr. Lupo explained in this early preview session that Marathon feels like a combination of Delta Force and Apex Legends. What sets apart Marathon from other extraction shooters is its futuristic setting model. Dr. Lupo described it as a really fun and beautiful game on your screen.
All in all, the expectation for Bungie’s Marathon is really high, making it one of the most anticipated titles. So, everyone is looking for 23 September to actually see what Bungie has offered to its fans.
