The upcoming action RPG from Playground Games, Fable, was slated for 2025. However, it has been delayed to 2026 with the reveal of a new gameplay trailer. Today, an insider, eXtas1s, described the reason behind the game’s delay. According to him, Fable was delayed because it wasn’t too fun.
This means that Xbox has reevaluated the game and realized that more work is needed to make it a fun gameplay experience for fans. While delays are not much appreciated, we still think this delay is good for fans, given that it allows the developers to polish the game further instead of being pressured to meet the release deadline and deliver a product that is far from a worthy title.

Moreover, the insider describes the things that need more focus. While the Forza engine is doing well for the racing game franchise Forza Horizon, it is causing technical issues in Fable, so developers need more time to make it good.
Furthermore, the developers are working on more adjustments in the game, including gameplay and pace progression improvements, because the initial gameplay is not considered too much fun.
Hence, Xbox is looking to make every aspect of the title worthy to deliver a Fable reboot that will capture the true essence of the franchise.
All in all, the new pre-alpha gameplay showcased different scenes, including kicking chickens and combat with different enemies. Even before the delay, Fable already looked cool, and fans gave a warm reception to the pre-alpha gameplay.
That said, Fable is releasing on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, and it was set to launch one year after the release on PC and Xbox in 2025. However, another insider said that it is possible that Fable will release simultaneously on all platforms. Hence, this delay does not cause trouble for PS5 and Nintendo Switch owners.
