Metro Awakening VR was a highly priced addition to the VR games library. However, today, Embracer Group’s financial reports suggest Metro Awakening VR does not sell well and fails to meet financial management expectations.

Despite being a critical success, given its accolade as Best Steam VR Game of the Year, it is disappointing that it has not been a commercial success for the company.
Metro Awakening VR was released on November 7, 2024, for VR devices, including Meta Quest 2 and 3, Steam VR, PlayStation VR2, and Viveport. While some outlets gave the title average scores, it has mostly positive reviews on Steam.
However, it still does not produce enough revenue for the company, which could lead to some points that would explain the failure. Firstly, VR games are a very niche domain, and there are already many games in it, so this has impacted the reach of the game compared to other broad markets. Secondly, there are solid competitors like Half-Life Alyx and others, which have further impacted the title reach.
However, as a AAA game, Metro Awakening VR has a fair price tag. It only costs $39.99, which is really a good price for an exclusive VR game. This could be a plus point for its sales.
All in all, this suggests that it is really challenging to get the expected results in a VR market, which imposes a risk of failure for developers when considering developing a VR title.
That said, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 Remastered produced promising results for the company, as both sales exceeded financial expectations, balancing the failure of Metro Awakening VR.
