Crux Of The Story

  • Mobile Gaming is developing at a good pace as we get more AAA titles running at decent frames.
  • Today, we saw footage of an intense AAA title, Cyberpunk 2077, running on Snapdragon 8 Elite at 60 FPS on low presets.
  • It was done through emulation with Gamefusion, which was also used to play A Plague Tail Innocence on the same chip.

While portable AAA gaming was previously achieved only on gaming handhelds, it seems that mobile gaming is progressing to become another alternative. The more mobile hardware progresses, the closer it is to achieving intense tasks such as playing AAA games on decent frames.

One example we saw now is really surprising. New footage surfaced online that shows Snapdragon Elite 8 technical abilities as it ran Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most intensive AAA titles, at 60 FPS.

The progress seems impressive as the Snapdragon Elite 8 performed twice than last-gen Snapdragon Gen 3 in AAA games like A Plague Tail Innocence.

Letcook shared gameplay footage of Cyberpunk 2077 running on a Snapdragon 8 Elite. What’s intriguing is that the device can handle the game at 60 frames smoothly without any drops, even in intense areas like combat.

The resolution was set to 1280 720, and the graphics preset to low. Though the resolution is low, it does not affect the details of the game, given the mobile’s small screen size, so it’s a perfectly fine resolution for the game.

However, the question arises: How does Letcook run the game, given that there’s no native Android app for it? The answer is the power of emulation with software called Gamefusion. It’s really an interesting emulation software, as it was also able to run A Plague Tail Innocence previously.

It’s worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the graphically intense AAA titles that struggled with many mid-end GPUs of its time. It’s really impressive that mobile hardware has advanced to the point where it can finally be considered a choice for AAA mobile gaming.

Nonetheless, there are also games that are officially released for iOS and Android, such as Resident Evil Village and Assasssin’s Creed Mirage.
