Currently, Xbox’s main strategy for long-term growth is Game Pass given the console is not driving much revenue because of declining sales. Xbox is bringing more and more premium titles to the subscription service to increase its worth.
Given all changes have a cost, today we have discovered that Microsoft is looking to increase the Game Pass price, and the price update is sent to resellers and retailers, however, it is not public yet. The report says that the price hike will be public by March 2025.
All subscription services including Console Game Pass, Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass will get a new price. However, the most price increment will be seen in Gamepass Ultimate because it has both console and PC games.
The price increase is essential for Xbox given it has spent high enough revenue to bring premium titles to the subscription service. Activision’s acquisition to make Call Of Duty available is one of the biggest examples of it.
Meanwhile, a report says that Xbox has added 137 games worth $4800 in 2024 on Game Pass. Hence, the price increment is justifiable for Xbox. Analysts have also previously predicted that the Game Pass price increase is inevitable.
That said, the previous price increment was seen in September 2024, with Game Pass Ultimate increasing to $19.99 and PC Game Pass increasing to $11.99.
All in all, the upcoming Game Pass title that we are looking forward to is Avowed, an action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, slated for February 18, 2025. Interestingly, we have already reported that this game is a good addition for Xbox consoles as it will target 60 FPS on Series X.
