CD Projekt Red has published its earnings report for FY 2024, and in the report, the company has described the developmental status of the different projects. What’s astounding is that The Witcher Remake, which was announced back in October 2022, is still in the conceptual phase.
This led to disappointment from fans who are expecting that the remake would have gone into the advanced developmental stages by now. The conceptual phase is where ideas are brainstormed, analyzed, approved by stakeholders, and much more. Basically, it is a pre-production phase. Once this phase is completed, it enters into active development, which then accelerates the game development speed.

In the report, CDPR clearly mentioned that the focus is currently on The Witcher 4, which is in full production and has already released different trailers. More than half of the developers are working on the title, as it has a 58% developmental workforce.
Hence, it is very hard to assume that Witcher 1 Remake will arrive by any means before 2026. Given that CDPR will release The Witcher 4, which is expected to release in 2027, then after this, The Witcher 1 Remake will be the next release. So 2028-2029 seems to be the most likely release window for The Witcher Remake.
The Witcher debuted the famous RPG series that is still one of the biggest franchises ever, so a remake will be great to pay tribute to the classical RPG. The title also got an enhanced edition in 2008, which revamped some visual aspects of it.
That said, The Witcher Remake is not based on the in-house engine; instead, it uses Unreal Engine 5 and is developed by the Fool Theory team that worked on the original Witcher as well. Meanwhile, unlike the original Witcher, the remake will be fully open-world.
