Insomniac has great potential apart from Spider-Man and Marvel Wolverine. The Classical FPS Shooter Resistance is one of the overlooked franchises of the studio.
Today, we have discovered that Insomanic itself was also interested in making the fourth installment of the franchise. Ted Price, Resistance’s Creative Director, confirms in an interview that we have pitched Resistance 4 to PlayStation, but the company was not interested in the project. Hence, it was turned down.
I do strongly believe that there’s a reason everything happens. Marvel has entrusted us with many of their beloved characters.
Ted Price
The Resistance franchise wasn’t losing revenue generation pace and Resistance 3 was the last game released after that PlayStation thought that this IP would give the revenue they expected. Hence, it was abandoned, and this Resistance 4 pitch rejection is also because of the same reason.
The creative director says that abandoning Resistance allowed us to work on Marvel games, which were received very well, and the projects gave us more and more players telling our unique stories to players.
That said, The news will cause agitation among fans given PlayStation accepted pitches of projects that have been turned down pretty badly like Concord, and also many live service game titles were canceled because of a risk of further failure and revenue loss. If Playstation greenlit such single-player worthy campaign titles things would be different now.
Nevertheless, we recently reported that Sony renewed the license of the franchise which might suggest that PlayStation could bring the Resistance Remaster Trilogy bringing many hopes to reality.
