Given that there is no release after Mass Effect Andromeda, the next game of the Mass Effect franchise is pretty much the highly anticipated and awaited one. Announced in a brief trailer in 2020, Mass Effect 5 marks the franchise’s upcoming offering.
While there has been little update for the game except that it is in pre-production, today, a new report emerged suggesting that Mass Effect 5 is still in the pre-production phase and hasn’t entered full production until now.
Meanwhile, apart from the game, there is a TV adaptation of Mass Effect in the works, so the Project Director / Executive Producer X says that I still expect both to be released in the next four to five years. This suggests that the release date for Mass Effect 5 is 2028 or 2029. However, it is really a wide timeline; hence, fans have to wait further to know any exact dates .
Furthermore, Bioware is now shifting all its focus on the game. Given the failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which was released last year, the team working on the title has been laid off, and the others with a high focus on Mass Effect now.
That said, Mass Effect Andromeda was not an acclaimed title from Bioware, and the latest Dragon Age: The Veilguard was also a misfire. Hence, Bioware has to learn from its mistakes, reaccess the upcoming games, and bring something to restore its reputation for delivering good titles.
All in all, Bioware has let a small team of developers work on Mass Effect 5, so with the pre-production news, we are concerned that the fans will have to wait longer.
