Final Fantasy is a fantasy action RPG that is really popular in PlayStation communities because it’s a PlayStation exclusive. However, Square Enix showed the intent to release its games one by one to Xbox. Today, an insider provided interesting insights into the Final Fantasy 16 Xbox release.
According to Nate The Hate, Square Enix is planning to release the game on Xbox shortly, probably in the mid-first half of 2025 around Spring. That means Final Fantasy 16 might be released on Xbox Series X/S between March and June. However, the official announcement will provide the exact release date figures. If it is released this soon then we can expect the announcement in this or the coming month.

Final Fantasy 16 was the latest mainline title of the franchise, which was released on PS5 in 2023. Although the game was a worthy addition, it didn’t meet the publisher’s sales expectations because of exclusivity. Hence, It was already ported to PC on September 17, 2024, and now it might be making its way to the Xbox series as well.
Furthermore, the leaker also provided insights into the Xbox development of other Final Fantasy games as well. Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be the next title following the release of FF16 and it is set for the later days of 2025 probably November to December. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy Rebirth is not making its way to Xbox this year and is scheduled for next year.
The other platform for Square Enix to increase sales is Nintendo Switch, and the leaker suggests that currently FF16 is not planned for Nintendo because the company wants to maximize the popularity of other titles including FF7 Remake and Rebirth.
That said, Square Enix has already released Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox, which received a warm welcome and got decent popularity hence, the decision to port all games to Xbox remains a wise move to increase the game’s sales.
Given Xbox capitalizes on Gamepass for its growth, it remains unknown whether Square Enix’s upcoming games will be released on day one on the subscription service or be added later after release.
