After two delays, Ubisoft has finally released its most anticipated game of the year, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. While the game got its due appraisal for many aspects, we have discovered an alarming issue with the title. From different benchmarks, we have concluded that Ubisoft has failed highly in the optimation of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
In a performance benchmark of RTX 5070Ti by zWORMz Gaming on Youtube, the Nvidia next-gen RTX 50 Blackwell series GPU, Assassin’s Creed Shadows drops to 40s FPS even at very low resolutions such as 720P. So, a 1000$ GPU cannot achieve smooth performance like consistent 60 FPS even with 720P resolution. It’s worth noting that this is native 720P with no AI-generated frames.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first Assassin’s Creed title to feature Ray Tracing Global illumination, so people might assume that the feature is causing performance issues. However, it’s not the case, as setting ray tracing to very low does not significantly improve performance, only yielding 10-15 percent higher frames.
Meanwhile, for the $1000$ GPU, the benchmarker tried max settings, such as 4K max settings with RT max, and without frame generation, only achieved 30s FPS in the game, although the RTX 5070Ti is meant to play games at 4K and has achieved good results in other titles.
So, to get good performance on RTX 5070Ti, you have to rely on AI-generated frames through DLSS 4 with Multiple frame generation, which will provide more than 100s FPS at 4K Max settings.
Hence, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one of the terribly optimized games of the year. Ubisoft must release patches to optimize the title; otherwise, performance issues can damage the title’s sales long-term. However, players praised the game’s world design, combat, visuals, and other aspects. While Ubsioft is already facing backlash, these performance issues will make things even worse for the company.
