“I am hoping to raise the PlayStation IP outside of just the gaming category and elevate it so it sits comfortably within the larger entertainment industry,”

While the statement is new, the company has already working on the bigger industry with its entertainment teams such as Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions. Sony Pictures’ recent works include Kraven The Hunter, Venom: The Last Dance Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and others.

On the other hand, PlayStation Productions works on the production of Video Game franchise films and TV adaptations. While these already exist, Sony wants to emphasize more on them.

Sony has already worked on The Video Game adaptions like Last Of US HBO series and Uncharted movie, both of them received quite well, getting critical and commercial accalim.

Renowned games like Sunker Punch Ghost of Tsushima, Bend Studio’s Days Gone, and Gravity Rush are all currently in development at PlayStation Production. Until Dawn, a horror game based on Supermassive Studios film adaptations is set to release on April 25, 2025.

All in all, Sony has a wide nexus in the film and TV industry compared to other competitors like Xbox and Nintendo. Meanwhile, Individual Studios also have TV adaptations of their video games such as Resident Evil, The Witcher, and more.
